The most common way to reset or clear the BIOS password, which most of us know, is to physically disconnect the computer by disconnecting all cables and removing the battery from the motherboard for several minutes.

Another way to remove the BIOS password is to switch the CMOS jumper on the motherboard itself, if present. These methods work because most PC motherboards and some laptop motherboards use a battery to support BIOS / CMOS settings. If you turn off the power, the BIOS / CMOS settings and password will be deleted.

If for some reason you cannot reset your computer’s BIOS security password by removing the battery or switching the CMOS jumper, here are a few options you can try.

If you can boot Windows

CMOS De-Animator is a more advanced tool compared to most tools. It can reset BIOS password from Windows. The latest version of CMOS De-Animator 2 is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems.

If you cannot boot from your hard drive or CD

How to remove BIOS password on a Samsung laptop? Turning off the power and removing the battery from the desktop motherboard for a few minutes should remove the BIOS password. But this is much less likely to work on a laptop. For added security, passwords for laptop BIOSs are usually stored on a separate EEPROM chip, which is independent of the BIOS battery.

If you have entered the wrong BIOS password on the laptop several times, a message appears on the screen stating that the laptop is locked. You will see something like “System Disabled” or “Password check failed. System Halted ”and a few numbers. If this message appears when entering the BIOS, you can simply turn off the power and then try to enter again. Pay attention to the number, because this is valuable information. It is required to generate a BIOS backdoor password.

If the codes received on this site did not help you, visit Dogbert’s blog, where you can find more information about the brand of your laptop and download a separate utility for it. To use one of the programs, download the utility and run it, then enter the number and press Enter. You will receive a master password with which you can try to unlock the computer.

If you can boot from CD / USB

When Windows does not boot properly, and there is no way to enter the BIOS to change the boot order, you may be lucky and the boot from CD or USB is already installed with a higher priority. In this case, you need to insert a CD or flash drive and the device will boot from them automatically. Also, lower priority may be set for booting from a CD or USB drive than for hard drives. In this case, you will need to temporarily disconnect the hard drive.

How else to remove the password through the BIOS? If you have access to Windows, another solution that allows you to boot from CD / USB is a tool called Plop Boot Manager. It makes it possible to boot from these media, even if the BIOS does not support this feature.

Here are some tools you can use when booting from a CD or USB flash drive.

PC CMOS Cleaner

At startup, the program will first try to decrypt and display a list of possible passwords. In case of failure, you can delete the password using two parameters, the second of which will completely reset the BIOS settings to default values - later you will have to reconfigure them.

Manual invalidation of the CMOS checksum

If tools such as CMOS De-Animator have not been able to help you, you can reset the BIOS password using debug.exe, which will invalidate the CMOS checksum, similar to running CMOS De-Animator. This can be done by entering two commands through the debug tool. But first you need to boot the computer under FreeDOS:

  1. Install FreeDOS on a USB drive using Rufus or UNetbootin,
  2. Download the debug.exe tool and save it in the root directory of the USB drive,
  3. Boot the computer from the USB drive and enter the following commands: (note that the second and third command starts with the letter O, and not from zero):

debug
o 70 2E
o 71 FF
quit

  1. Before removing the password from the computer through the BIOS, reboot it using the combination Ctrl + Alt + Del. An error message should appear on the screen, for example, “CMOS checksum error”. After that, you can access the CMOS configuration without entering a password.

How to remove the BIOS password in a laptop?

All BIOS settings information is stored in the chip on the motherboard, and the battery on the board serves to store this chip information when the laptop is turned off from electricity or the battery is dead. And to reset this information, you need to disassemble it and remove the battery or solder where it is soldered. Is it really inconvenient?

BIOS password generator

Therefore, I propose another way, without disassembly. I found a special program and translated it into Russian for you to make it convenient to use. Go to the service and see the field in which you need to enter your code.

You can recover your password from laptops: Acer, Compaq, Dell, Fujitsu-Siemens, HP, Compaq, Insyde H20, Phoenix, Sony Vaio, Samsung. On Asus, I'm not sure what works, but give it a try.

Procedure

  1. We turn on the laptop and try to enter the BIOS, usually this is the F2 key.

A message appears, enter your password.

Enter any character set and press enter. An incorrect password label will appear.

We type 2 more random numbers and the BIOS will prompt you to enter a password to unlock or continue to boot the system.

We choose to enter the unlock password (Enter Unlock Password).

A password will appear that needs to be entered into my bios password master wizard.

In the service, enter this code and click to get a password.

Depending on your laptop company, enter the received code in the proposed field.

And press Enter. And we get into the bios.

Now go to the Security tab and remove the password. We press enter against the set supervisor Password field and enter the password that we generated in the service, and in the second and third fields we do not write anything, just press enter.

And now we do the same in the Set HDD Password field, remove the password for loading the hard drive.

We reset bios password

We reset bios password

Hello everyone today, I’ll tell you how I reset the bios password if such a need arises. I’ll tell you both physical and software methods, all have their own advantages. Who can find himself in such a situation, in principle, and anyone, since recently vendors producing equipment are increasingly taking advantage of this opportunity, so that in addition to new equipment, you should buy a used item computer or laptop, it may also be lucky to get acquainted with this situation, maybe you will even buy a bios code decoder program.

how to reset bios password

There are times when people try to achieve maximum security or vice versa do a dirty trick by setting a password to enter the BIOS. Let me remind you, bios is a firmware that helps your hardware interact with each other, if it's so superficial. Having access to the BIOS, you essentially get access to the brains of your laptop or computer, it is in it that the hardware settings are made or boot priorities are set for installing the system from a USB flash drive or loading from a PXE server. Naturally, if this is an organization’s computer, then the security service may require that the system administrator set a password there, for those particularly curious, or it may be that the iron producers can block access there, and you need to flash bios, the situations are different. The main thing is that the task is to produce bios password reset and you as an engineer must be able to do this.

BIOS reset methods

There are two ways to reset CMOS memory. Let me remind you of the CMOS-memory (Complimentary Matal-Oxide-Semiconductor - Complimentary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor), we need a BIOS to store data in it, which requires constant recharge by a battery installed on the motherboard .:

  • this is a physical effect on iron
  • using utilities

And so when you try to enter the BIOS, you see these pictures

Soft reset bios password

A free command line utility called cmospwd-5.0 will help me. You can download cmospwd-5.0 here.

Select the windows folder in it, hold down the Shift button and right-click on it, then select the menu item Open command window

Let's see the utility syntax using the /? switch

Now reset CMOS bios

This utility can also be downloaded from under DOS, you can put it into ISO with DOS, see the link on the left for how to do this.

The utility is suitable for these bios versions

  • ACER / IBM BIOS
  • AMI BIOS
  • AMI WinBIOS 2.5
  • Award 4.5x / 4.6x / 6.0
  • Compaq (1992)
  • Compaq (New version)
  • IBM (PS / 2, Activa, Thinkpad)
  • Packard bell
  • Phoenix 1.00.09.AC0 (1994), a486 1.03, 1.04, 1.10 A03, 4.05 rev 1.02.943, 4.06 rev 1.13.1107
  • Phoenix 4 release 6 (User)
  • Gateway Solo - Phoenix 4.0 release 6
  • Toshiba
  • Zenith ami

Using the debug.exe utility

There is a debug.exe utility in Windows XP and it lies in WINDOWS system32 debug.exe. You can also use it, but only in the DOS version, how to run it from there, read the link above about ISO DOS. Download debug windows 7 mo on the link, it weighs only 20 kb.

We start debug.exe and enter our codes for each BIOS version.

  • q - quit
  • the first number on each line is the port
  • the second is the number of bytes (in hexadecimal)
  • in the command window, type exit (or just close the window),

Physical password reset

How to reset bios password If you couldn’t reset your password with the above utilities, try the following methods

  • Remove the battery on the motherboard and wait a couple of minutes. Once pulled out, be sure to remove the power cord from your system unit or the battery on your laptop, then press the power button, your fans will spin a bit and the residual energy will go away.

On laptops, you can still try to close the contacts where the battery is, just before that, be sure to remove the battery

  • On most motherboards, you may find a reset button CMOS It is located most often next to the battery. To clear memory CMOS you need to close these connectors, then turn on the PC and re-set the BIOS settings.

or another such CMOS.

Method 1 - Chubais Method

because CMOS requires constant recharge to save data, it follows that by removing such recharge (battery) for a while (approximately 24 hours) we will achieve BIOS cleaning. After that, it is necessary to reinsert the battery in the right place and when you start the computer, indicate again to set the necessary parameters like time, a new password (if it is so necessary) and other settings you need.

The method is effective, but long, and time, as you know, is a very valuable resource and the user, like the IT specialist, does not always possess it. These features make this method not very practical and rather a last resort than real practice. In addition, the battery on some models of motherboards can be extremely difficult to remove without the use of additional tools, so it makes sense to resort to the method described in the instructions for motherboards:

Method 2 - Emergency Button

on most motherboards there are special connectors for cleaning memory CMOSwhich they are usually located in close proximity to the battery (You can find the location of such a connector from the motherboard diagram provided in the instructions for it or on the manufacturer’s website) To clear memory CMOS you need to close these connectors, then turn on the PC and re-set the BIOS settings.

If you find yourself lucky, who often come across rare situations or you just are not looking for easy ways, then for you there is another way (described in goldenshara.com/viewtopic.php?t=7802):

Method 3 - Engineering Password

It consists in entering instead of a forgotten password BIOS engineering password for this motherboard:

Award
_awardCondo
01322222d8on
589589Hlt
589721J262

Awkward BIOSTARTTPTHA
ConcatZJAAADC

AMI
A.M.I.CONDO
AAAMMMIIIHEWINTT RAND
AMILkwpeter
AMI? SWPassword
AMI_SWSER
BIOS

However, it is worth remembering that these passwords only work on BIOS version 4.55G and below (motherboard class up i845P chipset).

Method 4 - Remember the Old Time

Another method of password reset is to use the DOS environment. To do this, boot into the environment Dos (clean Dosrather than emulated from under Windows) and enter the following commands:

* Award and AMI BIOS:
DEBUG
-O 70 17
-O 71 17
Q

* Phoenix BIOS:
DEBUG
-O 70 FF
-O 71 FF
Q
